Look, all rice cookers require a degree of set-it-and-forget-it-but-pay-attention. It's in the nature of the beast.

I put into the cooker a scoop (included measurer) of brown rice, 2.5 cups water, a veggie bouillon cube, and some olive oil; and in *ABOUT* an hour, sometimes less, sometimes more, check your local weather conditions, I have a VERY NICE bowl of WELL-COOKED rice. Okay, sometimes it needs to sit an extra hour, power off, to fluff properly. So COOK AHEAD OF TIME!

I can serve it directly or use it in a salmon skillet; different results require some attention to detail, but anyone who CANNOT use this device is an IDIOT.

In the two years I've owned this machine, I've cooked MINIMUM five hundred bowls of rice. It works.

I ADORE this machine.

I have owned this rice cooker for about 3 weeks now. I mostly make white rice, and I think the price is sort of an overkill for cooking plain white rice (but it does make excellent rice).
I also made the risotto using the supplied recipe, and my son loved it! I cooked Texmati rice, but did not turn out okay, as I have a feeling the brand of rice I used is sort of pre-cooked.
I boiled eggs in it, and they boiled perfectly - with no gray around the yolks. The timers are very handy - the cooker doesn't cook and keep it warm until ready; instead it cooks so that it is done by the time you need it - hence the risk of dry rice is low. The soaking of rice for a longer period does alter the taste, but ever so slightly (I think).
The rice bowl is fantastically thick, and non-stick. Very easy to wash off, because the rice never sticks to it. Some of the cheaper rice cookers drip the starchy steam when you open the lid - this one stays clean and I haven't been able to figure out how!!
The quick mode is something that is not really "quick" enough, however because of the timer I can live with longer cooking times.
Overall, an extremely nice rice cooker - however you do pay a premium price for it.

I'm really pleased with this rice cooker/slow cooker. It is simple to use and works very well. My daughter, husband and I are all using it and it is worth the counter space it takes up. We've been cooking rice a whole lot more and I've also used it to make pot roast (7 hours on the slow cooker!)

This is a great size machine for my family of three, I'd recommend it for a family of four also.

I did a lot of research prior to choosing the Zojirushi rice cooker and luckily for me by the time I was ready to purchase the company had come out with this model NS-VGC05 which is very compact and perfect for one person or even two. It does an amazing job of cooking the rice to perfection. The instructions were easy to follow especially for being a novice. I am anxious to try the different settings for different rices and cakes. I called the company to find out about the built in clock. The instructions did not explain whether you have to have the unit plugged in to recharge the clock. The answer is that you do not have to have it plugged in. It is a lithium battery that has a 5-6 year life and then you would call the company directly to have it replaced.
The clean up was really easy again by following the instructions. I highly recommend this product. It is definitely worth the money paid!!!

It cooks rice perfectly, and keeps warm quite well. The rice, depending on the grain, does get a little too hard above 4 or 5 hours of the "keep warm" function, and inedibly so after 8 hours. When this happens, I just add a little water and press the cook button again. It will rehydrate the rice quickly (much faster than having to cook the rice from scratch) and automatically switch to the warm function.
I cook rice almost daily, and find that the cooking time and quality is above average. The interface is very easy to use, and does much to enhance the functionality and design of the machine.
I've had the cooker for a month now, and it's still working as new.
Others have noted that it doesn't come with a rice paddle holder, which may be a hassle to some, but doesn't bother me in the slightest. The plastic paddle is textured such that the rice rarely hangs onto it. The paddle then can then be left directly on the countertop without leaving bits of gunky rice behind.
As a student, I have little time to prepare meals. I find that this rice cooker makes delicious meals in no time at all - like a pressure or slow cooker. I have also used it to make curried rice with vegetables and chicken. Just through it all in and let it cook.
I was going to go for the zojirushi 3.5 as this is the one my parents own and suggested, but I found this one cheaper and more good looking. And the rice is just as good! I would highly recommend this product to anyone choosing between these two models.
