Look, all rice cookers require a degree of set-it-and-forget-it-but-pay-attention. It's in the nature of the beast.

I put into the cooker a scoop (included measurer) of brown rice, 2.5 cups water, a veggie bouillon cube, and some olive oil; and in *ABOUT* an hour, sometimes less, sometimes more, check your local weather conditions, I have a VERY NICE bowl of WELL-COOKED rice. Okay, sometimes it needs to sit an extra hour, power off, to fluff properly. So COOK AHEAD OF TIME!

I can serve it directly or use it in a salmon skillet; different results require some attention to detail, but anyone who CANNOT use this device is an IDIOT.

In the two years I've owned this machine, I've cooked MINIMUM five hundred bowls of rice. It works.

I ADORE this machine.

I have owned this rice cooker for about 3 weeks now. I mostly make white rice, and I think the price is sort of an overkill for cooking plain white rice (but it does make excellent rice).
I also made the risotto using the supplied recipe, and my son loved it! I cooked Texmati rice, but did not turn out okay, as I have a feeling the brand of rice I used is sort of pre-cooked.
I boiled eggs in it, and they boiled perfectly - with no gray around the yolks. The timers are very handy - the cooker doesn't cook and keep it warm until ready; instead it cooks so that it is done by the time you need it - hence the risk of dry rice is low. The soaking of rice for a longer period does alter the taste, but ever so slightly (I think).
The rice bowl is fantastically thick, and non-stick. Very easy to wash off, because the rice never sticks to it. Some of the cheaper rice cookers drip the starchy steam when you open the lid - this one stays clean and I haven't been able to figure out how!!
The quick mode is something that is not really "quick" enough, however because of the timer I can live with longer cooking times.
Overall, an extremely nice rice cooker - however you do pay a premium price for it.

I did a lot of research prior to choosing the Zojirushi rice cooker and luckily for me by the time I was ready to purchase the company had come out with this model NS-VGC05 which is very compact and perfect for one person or even two. It does an amazing job of cooking the rice to perfection. The instructions were easy to follow especially for being a novice. I am anxious to try the different settings for different rices and cakes. I called the company to find out about the built in clock. The instructions did not explain whether you have to have the unit plugged in to recharge the clock. The answer is that you do not have to have it plugged in. It is a lithium battery that has a 5-6 year life and then you would call the company directly to have it replaced.
The clean up was really easy again by following the instructions. I highly recommend this product. It is definitely worth the money paid!!!

It cooks rice perfectly, and keeps warm quite well. The rice, depending on the grain, does get a little too hard above 4 or 5 hours of the "keep warm" function, and inedibly so after 8 hours. When this happens, I just add a little water and press the cook button again. It will rehydrate the rice quickly (much faster than having to cook the rice from scratch) and automatically switch to the warm function.
I cook rice almost daily, and find that the cooking time and quality is above average. The interface is very easy to use, and does much to enhance the functionality and design of the machine.
I've had the cooker for a month now, and it's still working as new.
Others have noted that it doesn't come with a rice paddle holder, which may be a hassle to some, but doesn't bother me in the slightest. The plastic paddle is textured such that the rice rarely hangs onto it. The paddle then can then be left directly on the countertop without leaving bits of gunky rice behind.
As a student, I have little time to prepare meals. I find that this rice cooker makes delicious meals in no time at all - like a pressure or slow cooker. I have also used it to make curried rice with vegetables and chicken. Just through it all in and let it cook.
I was going to go for the zojirushi 3.5 as this is the one my parents own and suggested, but I found this one cheaper and more good looking. And the rice is just as good! I would highly recommend this product to anyone choosing between these two models.

Especially with an adolescent in the house.

As an adolescent appetite arrived in our house, we took the advice of an acquaintence, and arranged for a rice cooker to arrive in our house. This thing takes all the drudgery out of making real rice (as opposed to instant or any other precooked rice). The timer is an excellent feature, as you can start the rice before sunrise, and not be distracted as you cook everything else, and have the rice arrive at the table with everything else at sunset. Cleaning is simple; take out the inside bowl and sponge off, wipe down the inside of the cooker.

Although we are an American family of northern European descent, we've found rice is the 'easy button' for dealing with teenager who seems to require tera-calorie meals. And the Zojirushi rice cooker is the way to go.

Even if you don't think you need it, get it. It will change your life.

First, 10 cups do not refer to 10 amercian cups, they are 10 Japanese cups, so this is really only 7.5 American cups.

Second, no matter how much rice you think you can eat, you will eat more once you have this machine. This size rice cooker is not too big for you. I make enough to eat at dinner and then leftovers for either rice pudding, rice salad, or fried rice.

This makes perfect rice every time. Even the brown rice is tasty and has an appealing texture.

If you can't cook, you will really appreciate this machine. If you can cook, you will still appreciate it. No more wondering what side dish you will make with dinner. You can cook the rice earlier in the day and it will hold it at the ideal temperature.

This is extremely easy to use and has very consistent results. I cannot imagine needing the more expensive model as I cannot envision tastier rice.

One caveat-- I recommend getting The Ultimate Rice Cooker Cookbook by Beth Hensperger when you get your machine. She will tell you how to cook all sorts of grains in there and provides tasty recipes so you can make the most of your new appliance. The manual that comes with the Zojirushi is leaves a little to be desired.

This thing is amazing when it comes to making risotto. I've only had it a short time but have made about a half-dozen batches of risotto and all have been successful beyond expectations except for one batch with peas in it which was a little underdone. The best so far has been risotto con gorgonzolla, but the batches of risotto milanese I have made have also been excellent.

However, I'm still working out cooking regular rice in it. The batches I have made so far have been a little sticky but they are getting better (I reduced the water I used). But since I bought it primarily to make risotto I can't complain too much.

"I've had this product for a couple of weeks and have used it with several different types of rice. All came out perfectly in the sticky style. The liquid volume of the bowl is about 1,200 ML. The 3 cups description are the smaller in size Japanese cups. If you eat more rice at one meal, have a large family, this is not the product for you.

There are several things that you can't cook in this appliance including soups, sauces and a full 3 cup quantity of rice (it will boil over and make a terrible mess).

You can use it to steam foods with a very good result on vegetables.

The instruction book is confusing and took some figuring out.

This machine is extremely well insulated and does not heat up my kitchen as my very old rice cooker does. Also it doesn't put gobs of steam into the air.

I look forward to seeing reviews from folks who are more technical than I am, but I am pleased with this machine. "

"I'm not much of a cook, yes I can make decent white rice myself, but have to watch it constantly. Brown rice always gives me fits. How many rice meals have I had to scoop the rice off the top of the pot because the bottom of the pot was either soupy or scorched.

Two pots of brown rice so far this cooker has cooked perfectly while I was busy elsewhere in the house. When I dropped by the kitchen and noticed the "keep warm" light was lit I openned the cooker and fluffed perfectly cooked rice.

"I upgraded to this from a regular heating white 3-cup unit when I redid my kitchen. It looks great, works superbly, and has a spatula holder on the side which my old model was inexplicably missing.

However... it's NOT silent! There's a little fan in the bottom, I'm guess 60mm, I guess for cooling the electronics? Very odd. It's not loud at all, but it's strange to hear, and it makes me worry about the longevity of the unit. It would be better without any moving parts.

"We chose this rice cooker for several reasons. The reviews of this product and its differently colored brother products were excellent. The comparable Zojiruishi cookers were good as well but slightly more expensive. Cooking rice in this is a breeze - a must have for busy families on the go. My favorite option is the 24 hour timer - I can set it in the morning to have perfect rice waiting for my dinner when I get home from work and don't feel like cooking. And the rice? Comes out perfect every time!!! Not a single burnt or stuck to the pot grain so far. Just follow the instructions and that's it! Though it is just the husband and myself we got the 5.5 cup cooker because we will use if for dinner parties and future children. And it is plenty enough for that - I would not recommend a bigger size unless you are running a restaurant! Most days I put 1 cup dry rice in for the two of us and it is perfect, if not a little too much for us. The separate pot and inner lid for slow cooking is an excellent idea. Our kitchen is all black/stainless steel and this was the closest rice cooker to that theme that had great reviews. This is an excellent appliance and well worth the money!"

"I am Japanese so I make white rice every day.
If you are very picky about rice like me and make rice for one or two every day,
this is definitely a great candidate for you to consider.
If you don't eat rice so often, then honestly I think other inexpensive rice cookers should do.
I bought this rice cooker in May because I was so sick of my older Panasonice cheap rice cooker.
Although the panasonic one cooked decent rice, at least decent enough for me to not
consider buying a new one for 2 years, the non-stick coating was peeling off
and getting so flaky as I used for over 2 years on a daily basis.
Also, it could not keep the rice warm so having to cook rice
right before serving it was very inconvenient in terms of time-management.

So I decided to buy a nice rice cooker.
Zojirushi is one of the most reputated and popular rice cooker manufactures in Japan
and in fact, my family has a nice rice cooker from Zojirushi in Japan too.
I was a little skeptical about the performance of the US versions of their rice cookers
but at least for this particular model, this makes as good rice as the one my family has in Japan.

Even cheap white rice comes out very moist and stickey with this cooker.
It cooks any kind of rice perfectly. When I don't use the rice cooker for making rice,
I can cook a side-dish in this. Along with the keep-warm function, the timer is very convenient,
indispensable in my life and saves me a lot of time in preparing a meal in advance.
The pot is very sturdy and the non-stick coating does not seem to peel off anytime soon at all.
It is a reliable rice cooker overall. It was not cheap but it was definitely worth paying over 0 for. "
